Choochai is from a poor tribal village nestled in the mountains of Mae Doh, northern Thailand. Early one morning, while going to work in his rice field, Choochai had a tragic fall. His spine was damaged and he was left unable to walk without the use of his hand-crafted walking stick.
Operation Blessing (OB) paid for Choochai to travel to a hospital for a number of check-ups. Doctors concluded that nothing could be done without a risky operation that could leave Choochai completely paralyzed.
Choochai chose not to have the high-risk operation, leaving him unable to continue work as a carpenter or laborer. “This tragedy is the worst thing that has happened in my life,” Choochai said. “It has left me feeling desperate, helpless and worried that I will no longer be able to support my wife and two children.”
After consultation with Choochai and his family, OB decided to provide them with two businesses. One thousand fish were given for two fish ponds, along with 20 egg-laying chickens and feed for a new chicken coop.
These new businesses have empowered Choochai to continue supporting his wife and children, providing him with a better income, and supplying his whole family with nutritious food each day.
In addition to these new businesses, OB gave Choochai’s sons new bicycles to ride to school. They now have fun riding the 4km daily trip rather than having to walk.

To help improve sanitary conditions at Choochai’s home, OB built the family a new bathroom and toilet. A water tank was given to provide safe drinking water, which can also be used for cooking and bathing.
Choochai smiled as he said, “I am so grateful for the help we have received from Operation Blessing. My family is now so much happier and at peace. Thank you so much.”
