Operation Blessing is a non-profit humanitarian organization that aims to provide charitable services to economically disadvantaged people and communities, and to victims of calamities. OB intends to achieve this by undertaking medical missions, food distribution programs, community assistance projects, and disaster relief operations. In planning its projects, OB works with appropriate government and non-government agencies, local churches and community officials in the target localities.
Like most humanitarian organizations, Operation Blessing subsists mainly on donations. Medical missions are carried out by recruiting teams of volunteer medical practitioners who will travel to often remote locations, providing medical, dental and health care services. Occasionally OB will partner with foreign medical volunteers to encourage and achieve among other things, the sharing of knowledge and skills. OB also runs Medical Centers which act as mini-pharmacies to provide basic health care for people in remote locations. After training, volunteers are then equipped with first aid supplies for their village. A common objective of these initiatives is to raise the overall level of health care, especially in remote tribal villages.
Operation Blessing is also committed to helping poverty-stricken communities by providing livelihood assistance and installing water systems.
In times of disaster, Operation Blessing responds by mobilizing emergency relief personnel and volunteers to distribute food, clothing and other basic supplies, and to administer medical relief. After the tsunami of December 2004, OB opened a “satellite” office in Phang Nga in April 2005 to help rebuild broken lives. OB formed partnerships with other organizations, including the We Love Thailand coalition (2005-2006) and Step Ahead Micro-Enterprise Development, providing financial support for their post-tsunami relief and development activities.
Operation Blessing provides ongoing monthly support for ministry partner Chi Bae Children's Hosteland Burmese immigrant school in Phang Nga Province.
OB conducts holiday projects to give Christmas gifts for underprivileged children and to supply blankets in winter to needy families. As they begin the new school year, OB provides children from poor areas with school supplies to assist with their education.
The Community Transformation Projects provide holistic development opportunities for stuggling communities, helping families to become self-sufficient and whole members of a healthy thriving community. Each year, Operation Blessing holds a counseling and leadership training seminar to equip partners from across the country.
Operation Blessing began their work in Chiang Mai in May 1999, with two staff members. Today OB has a staff of ten employees.
