Living Water Flows at the House of Hope

Every displaced and neglected child yearns for a safe nurturing home, filled with love and kindness. The 45 tribal children who call House of Hope their home are no different.

When many of these children first arrived at House of Hope in Northern Thailand, their young lives had been shattered by the tragedies of war, violence and fear. Now they have found a safe haven where they can find love, security and hope for a brighter future.

But they were still lacking one thing. House of Hope was unable to provide an essential life necessity…water! There was always a constant demand on water for cooking, washing clothes, watering the garden, and bathing, but supply was short.

Baa Jing, one of the faithful caretakers at House of Hope said, “We don’t have water to wash our clothes. On the weekends, the children take their buckets and walk out into the field, washing their dirty clothes in the dirty canal. It’s very difficult.”

House of Hope was connected to the limited water supply of the small village, but this usually ran out in the afternoon, which was a critical time when all the children needed to bathe after school. It was also the time when water was needed for cooking the evening meals and washing up.

House of Hope desperately needed a water storage facility and so they put their request forward to Operation Blessing.

When Operation Blessing became aware of their need to store clean water, they responded by providing two 1500-liter water tanks on an elevated platform. The cost of this project was 68,295 Baht (about $2000USD).

House of Hope now has ample water all day long. The children can bathe, wash their clothes and water the vegetable garden, with plenty of water to spare for a cool water fight on hot day.

Daniel, who has called House of Hope home for the last nine years said, “Thank you so much to all the CBN sponsors for giving us these water tanks. Now when the town water runs out, we still have ample water to meet our needs. Thank you for seeing our difficult situation and having compassion on us.”
