After three years of reconstruction from the 2004 tsunami in Thailand ’s south, much work still remains. Yet with the continuous commitment of organizations like Operation Blessing, steady progress is underway. Ranong and Pang-nga, two provinces along the western coast of Thailand, have been the focal point of Operation Blessing’s latest tsunami outreach over the winter season.
In Ranong Province nine wells have been built serving 141 beneficiaries; forty houses were constructed serving 94 beneficiaries; and 30 newly assembled boats benefited 118 people. Operation Blessing also aided in the development of a mussel farm that provided for 20 families.
Many of the same projects are also being implemented in Pang-nga province. Operation Blessing has equipped 20 people with the skills to begin their own businesses. Two brand new houses were built, and Operation Blessing plans to begin another project building 63 home extensions in the next few months. A mushroom nursing project has also been in the works over the last four months benefiting 27 people.
