New Boats for Battered Fisherman

When the tsunami of December 2004 swept through Thailand it took with it the boats and livelihoods of many poor fishermen in Phang Nga Province, Southern Thailand. Over the last year, Operation Blessing has spent hundreds of thousands of dollars building new boats to help these shattered fishing communities get back on their feet.

In the current boat building project, OB has just finished constructing ten new 12 meter long fishing boats for fisherman from Hin Lart Village. The cost to build one of these boats is about $1500 US. OB also purchased engines at a cost of over $1000 each. Another 17 boats are now under construction for fishermen from the same village.

In two months when all the boats have been built, 27 fishermen who had their livelihoods tragically swept away by the tsunami will once again be able to provide for their families.

The total cost of this current project is over $80,000 US and would not be possible without the generous donations of so many around the world. It is because of this generosity that OB can continue to be a channel of God’s blessing to the suffering and lost of Thailand.
