After the tsunami in Southern Thailand, December 2004, Operation Blessing (OB) began providing new boats and engines to fishermen whose vessels had been destroyed. OB also realized the need to offer engine repair and maintenance courses to teach the skills needed to prolong engine life.
OB began running these free monthly courses over a year ago in September 2005. Each course runs for five days and teaches the theory of engine repair, while also providing ample practical experience repairing both diesel and petrol motors. Each trainee receives their own engine repair and maintenance manual.
On the 14th to 18th of September 2006, Operation Blessing offered one of these training courses to more than a dozen fishermen in Krabi Province, Southern Thailand. To date, OB has helped train more than 100 fishermen to maintain and repair engines, helping to prolong the life and usefulness for their business.
